Deakin University Law Building

Industry Cladding & Roofing were proud to collaborate with Woods Bagot and Watpac to complete the new innovative building for Deakin Law School at the Burwood university campus in Melbourne.

The eight-storey building, designed by Woods Bagot and built by Watpac, includes a range of contemporary and interactive learning spaces, flexible staff workspaces, student support facilities and health and wellbeing services.

Woods Bagot selected Industry Cladding & Roofing for the $4 million project in the early planning stages due to our strong track record and extensive knowledge, combined with industry expertise.

“We took on the Deakin Law School project as its design was innovative and unique. This is due to its tapered curved façade and seamless transition between the three building pods,” said Industry Cladding & Roofing Managing Director Grant Wright.

Our scope of works was to supply and install VM Zinc standing seam, Spandek® to plant screen and Level 8 walls, VitraDual to soffits and Klip-lok Colorbond to roofs.

It was the first project that Industry Cladding & Roofing not only installed the cladding but also manufactured the panels. This was achieved through the new arm of our business – Industry Metals – which was launched earlier this year to streamline workflow and deliver projects to the highest level of standards.

“VM Zinc was chosen as the cladding material for its durability and malleable nature,” added Mr Wright. “The standing seam panels were had to be hand formed.”

Fifty tonne of flat coil was turned into curved standing seam to achieve the desired look, making it one of the largest orders of VM Zinc in Australia to date.

Up to 25 of our crew members were on the job site each day over 12 months to manage all of the elements from tender to job completion.

“It was a true collaborative effort between architects, builders and the incredible Industry Cladding & Roofing team to achieve the high-level of craftsmanship and bring the impressive architectural vision to life,” said Mr Wright.

“Our onsite crew are experts in their trade and make Industry Cladding & Roofing a market leader. They have worked on some of Melbourne’s most unique developments and understand the complexity of these types of projects,” he added.

We previously worked with Woods Bagot on the Assembly Project in North Melbourne in 2017.
